"Come study in Elbasan!" US Ambassador Donald Lu meeting with students of the University of Elbasan
US Ambassador to Albania Donald Lu, also accompanied by the Deputy Head of the Public Relations Office at the Embassy Meghan McGill, organized a meeting with students of the University of Elbasan "Alexander Xhuvani". The ambassador was received by the Rector of the University Prof.Dr. Skender Topi, Deputy Rector Prof.asc.Dr. Peci Naqellari and the Head of the Department of English and German Languages Prof.Sc.Dr. Laureta Vavla, who accompanied him during the meeting he had. At the center of the meeting was the presentation of a project, in the framework of a global inter -university initiative, where students are key actors in its design and implementation. This initiative is supported by the US State Department and the US Embassy in Tirana, where Edventure and Facebook were also direct actors. The University of Elbasan has been the first public university in Albania to become part of this initiative.
In the first phase of the project, the English language department students decided to address issues of violent religious extremism, building a platform called "I am just like you". To this end, they cooperated with a number of regional actors such as the Elbasan Women's Center, various schools and the center of interfaith cooperation in Elbasan.
In the second phase of the project, another group of students selected to work with gender issues and drafted another platform called "Gender Cooperation Makes the Change", where they managed to organize numerous meetings in different cities of Albania, and cooperate with Various actors like the Elbasan Women's Forum.
After hearing the presentation of the projects developed by the students, Ambassador Donald Lu congratulated them on the hard work they did. He regarded the University of Elbasan as a leader in this regard
"Come to study in Elbasan" was the direct call that Ambassador Lu used to the meeting, addressing one of the attendees, a student at another university of the country, giving a strong message to the students and staff of this university.
The meeting continued with a conversation between the ambassador and the students regarding different problems.
